I recently went on a trip to Cape Cod this past April and put together some outfits for the trip. This time of year isn’t what you’d normally imagine; the picturesque summer beach days, sunny bike rides, and outdoor dining are far in front of us. In fact, the trip was cold, windy, and rainy. That didn’t stop me from dressing in the coastal imagery you may imagine: linens, casual button downs, and lightweight layers.
1. Cozy comfy

This look was the ultimate homebody and causal shopping combination. I have Birkenstock Bostons that are easy enough to slip on and comfortable enough to walk in between shops for a few hours. I also have on linen pants that are paired with a basic tank top and an oversized cardigan. To add that coastal element, I paired this look with a wicker-looking bag.
2. Warm Layering

The day I wore this was warm, but windy! I layered a 100% cotton sweater with a jean jacket and I stayed perfectly comfortable. I donned my linen pants again and paired with my leather ballet flats. I would highly recommend full leather flats as a versatile beach/vacation shoe. Flats are easy to get the sand out of and the leather makes them easy to clean.
3. Functional

Wherever your plans take you, always pack something functional. The day I wore this we traveled and hiked/walked around. I wore Birkenstocks so I could easily slip into my hiking shoes and I wore a crewneck that I could easily throw a jacket over. I used a headband to keep my hair back so I could easily see my camera to get those memorable photos!
4. Casual Day Out

Last but not least is just a casual outfit to get a Massachusetts lobster roll! I wore a white, cotton long sleeve T-shirt under a blue, cotton button up with jeans and some ballet flats. I brought my bag to continue collecting my seashells and threw my hair up in a claw clip. I think the blue and white paired with the straw colored bag radiates that costal vibe.
I hope this serves as inspiration for your New England trip! You don’t need much more than what you already have. You can see I rewore a lot of the same core items, yet each day served a different look. Happy travels!
